Traveling back in time a bit, I grew up in Crete, Illinois which is approximately 30 miles south of Chicago. In 1996, I graduated from Crete-Monee High School and headed off to college at the University of Illinois.

I had a wonderful experience in college. I majored in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in Environmental. I got really involved in extracurricular activities, and managed to spend some time studying in other countries. Some of my favorite involvements were Student Introduction to Engineering (SITE), a weekend where seniors in high school come down to campus to learn more about their opportunities here, and Engineering Council, where I met some great people.

I had the chance to study abroad twice as an undergraduate. I spent the fall semester of my junior year (1998) in Sydney, Australia. I had an amazing, mind-opening experience during those six months. I met some wonderful people and saw some beautiful parts of the country, from the blue-green waters of the Great Barrier Reef to the dry red sand of the Outback. I spent the summer after my senior year (2000) in Darmstadt, Germany in an intensive language course. That was also a wonderful experience - made even better by the fact that I had time to travel through Europe for a month after the program ended!

Despite all those outside activities, I managed to obtain my Bachelor's degree in May 2000. Instead of diving head first into the real world like many of my friends, I decided to postpone the inevitable by getting a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois. I graduated in May 2002 and moved shortly thereafter to Walnut Creek, CA (20 miles east of San Francisco) to work at Carollo Engineers. Carollo is an environmental consulting firm specializing in water and wastewater design. The three years I spent in California were great. I spent my weekends road biking, hiking, camping, and just enjoying the CA sunshine!

This past summer I moved to Boulder, CO to work in Carollo's Broomfield office. Living at the foot of the mountains is spectacular, although waking up to frost in the morning is going to take some getting used to!
